Jungfrau Region

Versão em português aqui.

If you have read my previous post about Wengen, one of the most beautiful villages we stayed in our trip to Switzerland, you noted that I chose this village to have easy access to the Jungfrau Ski Resort.

From Wengen you can easily reach the Kleine Scheidegg station, the final stop before the famous Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe, the highest train station of the continent.

Wengernalpbahn

We took the train just to Kleine Scheidegg, because we wanted to ski and it was high enough for us, but most of the tourists take the train to the top. It’s very easy. You can read more about this tour here.

The Jungfraubahn – the railway that links the Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujoch – is considered one of the oldest mountain railways. They celebrated its centenaire in 2012. The trains are well-preserved and kept in vintage style, a charming plus.

From Kleine Scheidegg we went down skiing to Grindelwald, another fairytale village, a bit bigger than Wengen. The way down was plenty of snowy pine trees. A truly dream come true. ❤

We stayed there for just a couple of days, but there are so many things to do that I can affirm you may spend a whole week in the region with plenty of activities to do. Murren is also beautiful, but it’s on the other side of the Valley (if you are in Wengen), so it’s a bit far away.

Lauterbrunnen is the Valley of Waterfalls – there are more than 70. It’s a beautiful cosy village, the only difference from Wengen is that cars are allowed there, so I thing it’s a bit less romantic, but it’s also full of charm, as is the whole Jungfrau Region.

You can reach this area through Interlaken. From there you must choose If you want to go either through Lauterbrunnen (right side) or Grindelwald (left side). Wherever you go, just be sure to include at least a couple of nights in any of these amazing villages if you want to have a genuine alpine experience.
